Final say on the GRE General Exam

This is a public service to those who will be taking the computerized GRE general exam:

1. If you are not a permanent resident of the country in which you will be taking the GRE, you need bring your passport as ID. I'm so glad I called the Beacon Street, Brookline testing center 2 hours before my exam to confirm my appointment and to find out if they had lockers. The testing officer kindly told me about the specific ID requirements - no doubt an essential piece of information. Oh, and they do have lockers.

2. You must empty all your pockets as you cannot bring anything inside the testing room. Even your handkerchief! They will provide 2 pencils and 6 pieces of scratch paper - ugly, blue scratch paper.

3. There is a question before you begin the exam asking you what undergraduate college you graduated from. I mistakenly thought that they were asking me what college/university I wanted my scores sent to. Naturally, I answered "Harvard". It was not until after I confirmed my answer did I realize my mistake. The testing officer told me not to worry as it was only a survey. FYI, you pick the colleges/universities you want your scores sent to AFTER the exam.
